Financial Case Worker Budgeting Advice

Are you or your family experiencing a crisis or facing financial hardship?

If you are in an emergency financial situation and need assistance to access essential services, we can help.

We can assist with planning your budget and assist you in working through your financial difficulties.

Talk to our Financial Case Worker who can assist you or refer you to other services that are available to help you improve your financial situation.

Budgeting advice

We aim to provide assistance that builds the capacity of our communities and to respond to the needs of people of all ages within them.

This is a free and confidential service, providing outreach to Cooktown, Wujal Wujal & Laura.

We can assist with a variety of issues including:

  • Developing a workable budget
  • Building a plan to pay for essentials such as food, rent and utilities
  • Understanding bills and accounts
  • Saving money
  • Accessing phone company hardship programs
  • Accessing government concessions
  • Accessing financial services
  • Referrals for more complex financial issues and financial counselling
  • Housing applications
  • Emergency & crisis relief
  • Community Education

No Interest Loan Scheme (NILS)

No Interest Loans are for the purchase of essential goods and services such as vehicle repairs, educational essentials, medical or dental expenses, household items and essentials

You are eligible if:

  • You have a Health Care Card / Pension Card or earn less than $45,000 a year after tax ($60,000 for couples or people with dependants).
  • You have lived at your current or previous address for at least 3 months.
  • You can show that you have the capacity to repay the loan.

CDCC is seeking two DFV Counsellors (Male and Female Roles) to join our team, working across Cooktown, Hope Vale, Wujal Wujal and Laura.

This is an exciting and meaningful opportunity for the right person to be part of a community-based and led service doing work that matters. You’ll be joining a team that is supportive, experienced and genuinely committed to working alongside community in a respectful and practical way.

We’re looking for capable, grounded practitioners who are drawn to this work and can build strong, genuine connections. People who can sit with complexity, work collaboratively, and stay focused on safety, accountability and respectful practice, with an appreciation for local context, community connection and cultural knowledge.

Our work is guided by a trauma-informed, culturally safe and victim-survivor centred approach, with a strong focus on achieving safer outcomes for individuals and families.

Essentials:

• Current Driver License (outreach required)
• Current Blue Card (or ability to obtain)
• Demonstrated understanding of, or experience in, Domestic and Family Violence Counselling or related fields
• Skills in risk assessment, safety planning and crisis response
