The Cooktown District Community Centre’s Youth Engagement Service might be just what you are looking for.

Everyone goes through challenges at times.
CDCC may be able to help with some things straight away, and if we can’t, we can link you in with the best people to support you and assist you to set up these appointments.

This is a free and confidential service.

Our program aims to enable young people to lead healthy and violence free lives and have safe and stable places to live.

The Youth Engagement Service responds to the needs of vulnerable young people aged 12 to 25 years and provides the following supports informed by harm minimisation and empowerment frameworks.

  • Help with plans to reach your goals
  • Practical strategies toward independent living
  • Support to stay in school or training
  • Support if you are in trouble with the police
  • Court support
  • Assistance to set up appointments
  • Support if you are feeling down
  • Help if you are being hurt at home or elsewhere
  • Information, referral and advice

The Youth Engagement Service provides supports to match your individual needs.

  • Information about a range of youth issues relating to physical, social and emotional health and well-being
  • Needs assessments
  • Referral to community services
  • Outreach support
  • Financial assistance for important needs

🌿 DFV Counsellors – 2 Positions Available

CDCC is seeking two DFV Counsellors (Male and Female Roles) to join our team, working across Cooktown, Hope Vale, Wujal Wujal and Laura.

This is an exciting and meaningful opportunity for the right person to be part of a community-based and led service doing work that matters. You’ll be joining a team that is supportive, experienced and genuinely committed to working alongside community in a respectful and practical way.

We’re looking for capable, grounded practitioners who are drawn to this work and can build strong, genuine connections. People who can sit with complexity, work collaboratively, and stay focused on safety, accountability and respectful practice, with an appreciation for local context, community connection and cultural knowledge.

Our work is guided by a trauma-informed, culturally safe and victim-survivor centred approach, with a strong focus on achieving safer outcomes for individuals and families.

Essentials:

• Current Driver License (outreach required)
• Current Blue Card (or ability to obtain)
• Demonstrated understanding of, or experience in, Domestic and Family Violence Counselling or related fields
• Skills in risk assessment, safety planning and crisis response
